AFC Telford's Kane Richards backed to find goal touch
Rob Edwards believes it is just a matter of time until striker Kane Richards opens his AFC Telford United account.
Richards has looked lively since joining from Dover Athletic but has missed a few chances in his four games so far.
The 23-year-old has been playing up top with 19-goal Marcus Dinanga, and Edwards said: “We’ve been pleased with his performances, his work rate and quality in possession has been really good.
“He looks a real threat and got into some good areas (on Monday night as Telford lost 2-1 at Bradford Park Avenue).
“He was unlucky that a few shots got blocked. He wriggled out of a few challenges and looked really dangerous in the box. “He just couldn’t quite get the shot away or it was a good block on their behalf.
“We feel that it will come, he’s just to keep doing it – going through the process. He’s working hard.”
Richards scored one goal in 14 appearances for Dover before signing for Edwards’ relegation-threatened charges.
He progressed through Derby County’s youth system and has also played for Chester and Gainsborough Trinity.
Edwards took him off with quarter of an hour to go at Avenue on Monday, despite him and Dinanga linking up nicely.
“He hasn’t played much. We were aware he put in a right shift on Saturday, playing 90 minutes,” said the Bucks boss on making the switch.
“He’d been booked too so we had to consider all of those things, and we were bringing somebody on like John Marsden – who we know can get a goal as well.
“That’s the reason behind that.”
Richards has been keeping the likes of Jordan Murphy, John McAtee and Marsden out of the Telford starting line-up as of late.
Another attacker he is now tasked with getting in the XI ahead of is Amari Morgan-Smith, who is available for Saturday’s clash at Blyth Spartans after serving a three-match suspension.
Morgan-Smith, 28, has scored three times in six matches for the Bucks. He joined from National League rivals York City and has also played for Kidderminster Harriers, Cheltenham Town and Oldham Athletic.
On his return to the fold, Edwards added: “That’s what we want. We’ve got some really good competition in those forward areas. It’s good headaches to have.”
