AFC Telford boss Rob Edwards urges fans to turn out in their droves

Rob Edwards has issued a rallying cry to AFC Telford United fans ahead of tonight’s match against Spennymoor Town, declaring: “Their support is huge.”

Edwards’ side are third bottom in National League North going into the New Bucks Head clash but a win would lift them out of the drop zone.

Under-19s can go for free, while adults will both be charged £9, and the Bucks chief said: “Their support is huge.

“There is a lot of talk about fans at West Ham not being happy, but they really got behind the team at the weekend and they managed to beat Southampton 3-0 (in the Premier League).

“Having that 12th man right behind you, whether you’re at the top or the wrong end of the table as we are, is massive.

“We want to get as many fans in as possible, but we also know it’s up to us to get them going.

“We know it’s tough for them as it’s been a difficult few years for the club.

“The onus is on the players to give them something to shout about, and hopefully they will really get the crowd going.”

Telford are opening the Frank Nagington Stand for home fans as they aim to ramp up the support. The deadline for early bird season tickets, priced at £189 for adults, for next season is tonight too.

Spennymoor are seventh in the table, occupying the final play-off spot, after promotion from the Evo-Stik Northern Premier last campaign.

They are not on a great run at the moment, though. From their last five games, they have managed two wins and three losses.

On the Moors, Edwards said: “They’ve done well, they’re used to winning games.

“Their front four is dangerous, they’ve got pace and a lot of goals in them. “They’ve got some good footballers in the midfield area as well.

“We know their threats and we can’t take them lightly, but it’s about us. We have to make sure we do things right.

He added: “We know that anything can happen and we’re asking the players to give everything they have.

“If they show that desire and commitment to the club, to the cause, we’re a match for any team in this division.

“We’re looking forward to the game.”
