AFC Telford boss Rob Edwards throws down gauntlet to loan man John McAtee

Shrewsbury Town loanee McAtee, 18, has been left out of the last four Bucks games.

There are six matches left as Telford aim to survive in National League North, the next being at home against Leamington tomorrow.

“It’s difficult for John. You can only have five loan players in the squad and with us playing the way we are, it suits Ryan Giles as he’s an out-and-out winger,” said Edwards.

“I had a quick chat with him before the Chorley game.

"He’ll be frustrated but he’s got to keep fighting and got to keep working because Thursday is a new day.”

The situation is the same for ex-Walsall man Jordan Murphy, who has chipped in with six goals across all competitions for Telford this campaign.

“It’s just decisions at the moment,” said Edwards.

“They’ve got to keep fighting as the chance can come, and they have to take it.”

Meanwhile, Edwards hopes to welcome back Bob Harris and Jordan Lussey for the clash with the Brakes.

Left-back Harris and midfielder Lussey both missed the loss to the Magpies as they were unfit.

Fans would like to see both return but would particularly welcome former Sheffield United man Harris coming into the side as he is the only natural left-back on their books, following Ryan Wilson’s recent departure for a life in Australia.

Ross White played there against Chorley, but has played the majority of his football at right-back or centre-back.

“Bob was out because he wasn’t fit and Jordan was one where need to try to look after him,” added Edwards.

“He gives us a lot, Jord, but he does feel his muscles a little bit more than one or two others.

“Everyone else was, pretty much, 100 per cent and we needed that, everyone as fresh as possible.

“That was the reason with Jord, to keep him fresh.

“We’ve got a big squad and you’ve got to try to use it as well.

“I’m hoping Jordan will be and I’m hoping Bob will be. We’ll have to see.”
