Planning is put on hold for AFC Telford boss

Boss Rob Edwards admits AFC Telford United have been unable to plan ahead for next season due to 'everything that has been going on'.

The Bucks were hoping to finally seal survival as they hosted third bottom Gainsborough Trinity today.

Being in the relegation mix in National League North has meant Edwards' focus has very much been on the here and now, not the future.

When asked if some of his players have to prove they deserve to be kept on for next term, Edwards said: "No more so than any other time.

"From day one, everyone has been playing for their futures. You're always looking to prove yourself.

"Obviously, at this time of the season, it comes into focus more as there are only a few games left – and there will be people wanting to secure another year.

"With everything that has been going on, though, we haven't been able to plan for next season as much as we would have liked.

"The one thing I have said to the players is that if they're going to be here or not, it's a lot easier if you stay in the league – nobody wants a relegation on their CV.

"It's been the same since day one, you're always fighting. It's always the case."

Most of the Telford squad will see their current deals expire in the summer.

A couple of players are already tied down for next season – midfielder Ellis Deeney and striker Amari Morgan-Smith joined on 18-month contracts in January and February respectively.

Meanwhile, Edwards has been impressed by the performances of Connor Johnson and Ross White in recent weeks, as both have been playing in unnatural roles.

Johnson, who is on loan from Wolves and a centre-half by trade, has been filling in at right-back.

White, who has played the majority of his football as a right-back, has been at left-back.

The reason behind the shift in positions is because left-back Bob Harris is not fully fit.

"CJ and Ross have been different class over the last few weeks," added Edwards.

"Both of them have done really well, as has everyone to be fair.

"Bob is giving it a go, though, he may as well with so few games left."
