Strike duo have impressed AFC Telford boss Gavin Cowan

Gavin Cowan has been encouraged by the early showings of AFC Telford United’s new strikers Daniel Udoh and Andre Brown, stating: “They look ruthless.”

Udoh and Brown started up top together in last weekend’s 6-0 victory at Ellesmere Rangers and the 4-0 win at Market Drayton Town on Tuesday.

Udoh scored two at Ellesmere and one at Drayton. Brown did not score in either but Cowan is confident he will get off the mark soon.

“You look at Dan and Andre, the pair of them, they look ruthless,” said the Bucks chief.

“You talk about momentum, Andre did absolutely everything on Tuesday night apart from score.

“We recruited them for a reason and they’ve had a few very intense sessions.

“Now the games have started we’re building them up nicely, ready for the start of the season on August 4.

“What we’ve got is quick, clever players in and around them as well.”

Udoh joined Telford after his release from Crewe Alexandra.

He spent the back end of last season at National League North rivals Leamington and has also played for Solihull Moors, Halesowen Town and Chester.

Brown arrived from Kidderminster Harriers having turned down fresh terms at Aggborough.

He scored as the Bucks lost 2-0 there on New Year’s Day and had a prolific loan spell at Rushall Olympic a couple of years ago.

They were both set to be involved as Telford took on Villa at the New Bucks Head today.

Udoh, aged 21, and Brown, 22, both have good pedigree, but Cowan insists they are not certainties to start the season opener against Southport .

Amari Morgan-Smith, who was snapped up from York City in February, has looked sharp so far in pre-season too, completing the rout at Ellesmere.

“They’re not guaranteed to start, let’s get that right,” added Cowan.

“They’ve got to keep building and make sure that match fitness is there.

“Everything we’re doing is in preparation for August 4.

“We’re looking at different sections of the pitch, get a bit more of an understanding, as we have got a bit of a footballing identity.

“It’s all good and everyone is building nicely.”
