Andre Brown ready to roll for AFC Telford

The 22-year-old striker has arrived at the New Bucks Head having been a fringe player with Harriers. He still managed 10 goals last season, though, and was offered fresh terms there, but turned them down in an effort to become the Bucks’ main man.

“That was my main focus, to be honest. No striker wants to be sitting on the bench every week,” said Brown, who started Telford’s 3-0 loss to Aston Villa on Saturday.

“Coming to a place like Telford, it’s a big club with a great fanbase. Hopefully the gaffer will give me the opportunity to go out there and score some goals.”

Brown spent two terms at Kidderminster after being released from Crewe Alexandra. He had a trial spell at Leicester City last year too. He has been up top with Daniel Udoh in the Bucks’ pre-season fixtures, and the pair are familiar to each other having played together at Crewe.

“It’s good. I know a few of the lads from playing with them at Kiddy a few years ago, so I know how to play with them already,” Brown added.

“The gaffer has brought in some lads as well and they’re all top quality so I’m just looking forward to the season.

“I was with Dan at Crewe, two or three years ago, so we know how each other play – we play the same basically – so it’s exciting.

“The gaffer has done a lot of work behind the scenes, recruiting good players for the league, so hopefully we’ll do well this season.”

Meanwhile, Telford took a look at goalkeeper Callum Preston in the Villa defeat.

The former Birmingham City, Crawley Town and Wrexham man replaced Sheridan Martinez at half-time.

Boss Gavin Cowan said: “I thought he did well.

“He’s got a great calibre – he’s played in League One and was Wrexham’s No.2 last year.

“He’s a great lad so as well as a few other keepers, we’re looking at him and he got the opportunity to pay 45 on Saturday.”
