McQuilkin, a summer arrival from Kidderminster Harriers, netted just before the hour with a side-foot finish into the bottom corner.

It was a deserved goal for the visitors who were in control for much of the game and look in good shape for their opening National North game against Southport next Saturday.

Darryl Knights had the opening effort of the game but struck over the top from out on the left-hand side.

Andre Brown then went close to opening the scoring on nine minutes but his header from Henry Cowans’s centre went inches wide of the post.

Shane Sutton was next to threaten for Gavin Cowan’s side but his header from a corner was hacked off the line.

On 21 minutes Daniel Udoh fired in a low shot that required a good save by home goalkeeper Leigh Jenkins.

Telford continued to pressure and Brown worked a yard of space to get in a shot that went agonisingly wide.

The hosts had a header go wide just before half time but Brown was threatening again just after the interval but was unable to get the ball under control.

Cowans had the next opportunity for the Bucks after being picked out by Knights but he lifted his effort past the keeper and wide.

But seconds later the deadlock was finally broken when McQuilkin finished after the ball had been knocked back into the box.

A raft of substitutions followed and one of them, Zak Lilly, almost doubled the lead but his firm header from a corner was kept out by a great save.

Half-time substitute Andy Wycherley pulled off a smart save to keep the Bucks ahead before Amari Morgan-Smith missed a golden chance when he fired over the top.
