Gavin Cowan: AFC Telford always wanting better

Boss Gavin Cowan is refusing to let AFC Telford United rest on their laurels after another New Bucks Head triumph.

The Bucks beat Brackley Town 2-1 on Tuesday night and are unbeaten after their first four National League North games.

They also beat Southport 1-0 at home, on the opening day, and drawn 0-0 at Kidderminster Harriers and 1-1 at Guiseley.

But Cowan is striving for more.

"I think that's a testament to us as players and staff, we're always wanting better," he said.

"I asked the players their thoughts after the game and they basically told me everything I was going to tell them.

"We've got the three points and haven't played to the best of our abilities. That's the sign of a brilliant team."

Daniel Udoh and Darryl Knights got the goals for Telford, who sit fifth in the table at this early point of the season.

Sheridan Martinez saved a James Armson penalty in the first half as well.

"I'm delighted with the three points. Obviously, that's what we set out to gain at the start of every game but I was slightly disappointed with the start," said Cowan.

"We came into after about half an hour, played some fantastic football, and I thought we started really well in the second half.

"We stopped doing the simple things for a bit though and allowed them to come back into it.

"Credit to Brackley, they're the best team we've faced so far this season so I'm all the more happy for the win, really."

Martinez kept out the spot-kick after giving it away, tripping Lee Ndlovu.

Cowan had no complaints with the decision and added: "I pride myself on my tactical nous and they forced us to change twice tonight.

"Us as staff, we played a massive part with those tactics and we needed to do that.

"Brackley were at it, a bit more than we were, but we're evolving as a group, we're a new group.

"We've learned a lot. We feel a little fortunate we've come out with three points.

"We played well in spells but we know we need to up our performance levels moving forward."
