Gavin Cowan calls for backing from AFC Telford fans

Cowan’s side have won both of their National League North games at the New Bucks Head this season.

And the Bucks chief wants a big crowd and the atmosphere to match, to give his charges the best chance of extending their perfect home record.

“I want the supporters to really come out and back us for this game,” said Cowan, whose side currently sit third in the table following a five-match unbeaten run.

“The players have really delivered in these first five games and now it’s up to the community to do their part and get behind the team.

“It’s a message from us, to come down and support us – what we are trying to achieve.”

“The lads, look at how well they’ve played so far and how hard they’ve worked.

“Everything I’ve heard fans say they want to see from a Telford team, the lads have gone out there and done it.”

Three successive campaigns of toiling away at the wrong end of National North may well have put a fair few off from going to watch Telford.

Cowan, who won promotion to the Conference with the Bucks as a player, knows he cannot change what has happened in recent years – but is determined to bring the good times back.

“We’re trying to get the community back on side. We want the fans to come out in force, we need them,” he said.

“In order to be successful, you need everyone involved with the club – staff, players and supporters – so hopefully we’ll have a big crowd. We’re looking forward to it.”

Chester are coming to town having not played a game for two weeks, because of torrential rain leaving parts of their stadium, namely the CCTV in the control room and PA equipment, badly damaged.

Their last outing was a humiliating 8-1 thrashing at Blyth Spartans.

When asked if he’s concerned the Blues could be going into the fresh and with the bit between their teeth, Cowan added: “No. We’re not focusing on them.

“It is a bit of a strange one but I’m not worrying too much about that. We focus on ourselves.”
