AFC Telford boss Gavin Cowan: I will look at table in January
AFC Telford United boss Gavin Cowan is refusing to pay any attention to the National League North table until the new year.
The Bucks currently sit second in the division, having gone eight games unbeaten.
They have won all four at home, the latest triumph coming against Ashton United on Saturday, but Cowan is out to keep everyone grounded.
“I’m not interested in places in the table,” he said.
“My only issue would be if we were in the bottom three. I might look at the table then to see how to get out of there.
"It’s not of interest, at all. I just want three points from every game.”
On when he’ll be tempted to have a peek, he added: “Just in January.
“After December, the Christmas double-header, I’ll look at the table. But not until then.
“Some people might say that’s naive but I get my information from the games.”
A crowd of 1,148 witnessed Telford beat the Robins 2-1 at the weekend. And the Bucks chief insists they played a huge part in the victory.
“Being 1-0 down at home, they stayed with it, especially the guys behind the goal,” said Cowan.
“I thought they were absolutely immense and they were singing and shouting, banging the drum.
“They almost sucked that first goal into the net. It was a fortuitous first goal, but you earn your luck and I put that first goal down to them.
“I was really pleased to see the supporters back out, rooting for us like they did.”
Meanwhile, Cowan was delighted to hear Ryan Sears did well on his Shrewsbury league debut – after his loan at Telford was cut short.
The Bucks were hoping to extend his stay with them, but Cowan believes the defender, who was recalled by his parent club on Friday, could still end up back with the Bucks.
“We wanted to extend it and were due to have him (for the Ashton game),” he said.
“When they approached me, my initial answer was no – they let me know very last minute.
“But if the lad has got an opportunity to have an appearance in League One and we can keep good relations with our neighbours... there should be good relations between Shrewsbury and Telford.
“We had to sacrifice a little bit but I’m sure that they’re appreciative of that.”
On if a return to Telford could happen, Cowan added: “I think so.
“They’ve said that could be a possibility.”
