Gavin Cowan thanks AFC Telford fans for drumming up support

The Bucks have flourished at home so far this season, going five games unbeaten. They drew 1-1 with Stockport County there on Saturday, grabbing a late leveller, and Cowan insists the supporters played a vital part as they came out with a share of the spoils.

“You look at the supporters behind the goal, banging the drum – they just didn’t stop,” he said.

“I want to highlight that. It’s so important for any team to have that belief (from supporters).

“I believe in energy and the energy that they bring, banging the drum and singing, massively helps the team. And, sub-consciously, it can drive the opposition nuts.

“That’s what they did, they were superb. Thanks to them for sticking with us.”

Telford rode their luck slightly at a 1,415-strong Bucks Head. Stockport hit the woodwork and went close on a few other occasions.

“When it’s not quite going for a team, some fans can get on the players’ backs,” said Cowan.

“We didn’t get any of that, not one bit. I don’t think there was one moan or groan.

“When the performance is there, the fans stick with you.

“They believe in this team. They believe in our process and my outlook – and that is really flattering.

“That’s why I’m very privileged to be the manager of this football club, because the supporters believe in what I’m doing.

“That comes from results, but it also comes from being here and watching what the players are doing.I can’t knock the players either. Yes, we’ve got to tidy up in areas but you can’t knock them for that. I think they got the minimum they deserved and I felt like we could’ve won it.”

Meanwhile, the Bucks handed a debut to Callum Cockerill-Mollett – signed on loan from Walsall.

The 19-year-old left back will be staying with Telford for a month.

He has made four appearances for the Saddlers’ first team and played for the Republic of Ireland’s Under-18s.

On how Cockerill-Mollett fared, Cowan added: “For his first start, I thought he did magnificently well."

"He ran out of steam a little bit towards the end, which he’ll contest, but he’s a young lad that’s competitive and enjoys a tackle.

“I’d been looking for a left-back and nobody really fitted the bill.

“But when I spoke to Callum and Walsall, he was a perfect fit for us.”
