AFC Telford striker Daniel Udoh working hard to shake off extra attention

AFC Telford United hotshot Daniel Udoh has vowed to work harder in order to shake off the extra attention defenders are giving him.

Udoh has begun the season in blistering fashion for the Bucks, netting seven times in 10 games.

The 22-year-old is the joint-top scorer in National League North – but, because of that, is being man-marked.

“Teams are starting to watch us a bit more,” said Udoh, after being kept relatively quiet as Telford drew with Stockport at the weekend.

“They’re going to, with how well we’ve started.

“Teams are seeing that us, the strikers, are doing really well so they’re staying as tight as possible to us.

“It makes me want to work harder, so I can keep scoring.

“I know my target and I need to get my target so things like that just motivate me to work harder in training.”

Udoh joined Telford in the summer after being released by Crewe Alexandra.

He has also played for Ilkeston, Solihull Moors, Chester, Halesowen Town and Leamington. Keen to fulfil his potential, the Nigeria-born forward has constantly been asking Bucks chief Gavin Cowan for tips.

Udoh feels Cowan, having been on the other side of the defence as a defender, can really help him sharpen up his game.

“I’ll be asking the gaffer what I can do to improve, to make sure I can shake off the defenders and stuff like that,” he said.

“He’s on the side while I’m playing so he’ll know better than me.

“Things like that we’ll all be asking him – and we always ask anyway. That’s the type of relationship we have.

“He was a defender and he’ll know what to do. He’ll tell me the right things to do as I’m sure he would’ve had in-form strikers who he’s been told to man-mark.”

“I’ll be asking him for tips for what to do, how to shake them off, so that we can score and win.

“At the end of the day, our job is to score so the team wins.

“If everyone is chipping in, we can just going up and up the table, hopefully.”

On Telford’s team spirit, he added: “The staff have recruited right and I don’t think, this season , you’re going to see any of us give up.

“We’ll keep going. We’ll just keep plugging away. We’re all on board, we’re all on the same ship.”
