AFC Telford boss Gavin Cowan confident of win at Chester
Boss Gavin Cowan is confident AFC Telford United can get back to winning ways in the league against Chester tomorrow.
The Bucks are making the trip to the Deva Stadium, having lost their last two National League North outings.
Defeats to Altrincham and Bradford Park Avenue have seen Cowan’s charges slip out of the play-off places, so he is eager to make a statement against the division’s fourth-placed side.
“To go there and win, that’s the aim,” said Cowan.
“We know that it’s going to be a very tough game against a very efficient team.
“But, even though we’ve lost our last couple of games in the league to Altrincham and Bradford Park, we’re in a good place.
“We controlled large spells of the FA Trophy game against Farsley Celtic last week, and we’re feeling confident.”
Telford won the reverse fixture 3-1 back in August.
Chester have since picked up significantly though and on if they are stronger now, Cowan said: “They could be, but the main thing for us is just focusing on ourselves.
“Of course, we respect them, we’ve prepared for them and done our homework but, ultimately, it’s about what we do.”
Two players hoping to be involved, to boost the chances of extending their Bucks stays, are wingers Brendon Daniels and Yusifu Ceesay.
Neither have started a match since joining on one-month loans, but Cowan has urged them to follow Ryan Barnett’s lead.
Barnett, on loan from Shrewsbury, has broken into the team and impressed after a quiet first few weeks with Telford.
“We are bringing players in for a month with the idea that they’ll be with us for longer,” said Cowan.
“They have to train brilliantly to get in the team and stay there – and they’re working hard to do just that.
“In the first month, it’s not necessarily about playing week in and week out.
“They have to learn how we play in the first month, and then if they show the right signs, we’ll look to extend their stay.
“Ryan is the perfect example of that. He showed glimpses of good play and a fantastic attitude.
“We extended it, and he’s played really well over the past couple of games.
“He’s a great example to follow for those two.”
