Form can prove boost for AFC Telford United in play-off bid

Midfielder James McQuilkin has called on AFC Telford to finish the season in good shape to give them a better shot at play-off success.

The former Kidderminster Harriers man, 30, has started the last six games for Gavin Cowan’s Bucks.

Telford let two points slip late on against Blyth Spartans on Saturday but still have a five-point cushion to the top seven chasing pack, while they also boast a game in hand on some.

McQuilkin feels that, should Telford achieve a play-off spot in six games time, good form will boost their promotion prospects.

“It’s about grinding out results, definitely,” said McQuilkin.

“At this stage of the season it’s all about results for the run-in and we want to take some good form going into the play-offs, if we can get there.”

Cowan’s men were made to pay for not killing off mid-table Blyth, who levelled late on. McQuilkin added: “When you create as many chances as we had, we should score one or two more and kill the game off. It demoralises the opposition and we can take the three points.”
