Gavin Cowan loving Telford pressure
AFC Telford chief Gavin Cowan insists he is thriving on the ‘pressure moments’ as the play-off race heats up.
Bucks boss Cowan, whose side welcome Alfreton today in the penultimate game of the regular season, says players should come alive during a dramatic climax to the season.
AFC Telford regained their National League North play-off spot by leapfrogging back over rivals Blyth Spartans by a point with Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Hereford.
Skipper Shane Sutton popped up with the priceless equaliser just after the hour mark in a physical game at a sun-drenched Edgar Street.
“You push yourself and ask yourself questions. If you’re not in it for that then what are you in it for?” Cowan said.
“I’m in it for these moments, for the pressure moments, the high-stakes moments.
“I’m not in it for languishing in mid-table, I want to be right in the mix.
“Sometimes there’s a building process, I call it the process, you’ll have seen it’s trust the process.
“It’s infinity, there is no end to it, but it’s trusting it, then it will bring you the rewards in the long term.”
Telford are a point clear of Blyth with two matches remaining – Alfreton’s visit today and the trip to York on Saturday.
The draw extended Telford’s unbeaten run to six games.
