Matty Stenson keen to keep up the work rate with AFC Telford
Bucks striker Matty Stenson believes his hard work and old school style will set him up for the rest of the National League North season.
The forward on-loan from Solihull Moors extended his temporary deal with AFC Telford United this week as he repays the loyalty shown by manager Gavin Cowan and the club’s supporters.
And the 25-year-old believes the best way he can do that is by staying consistent with his work rate on the field.
“It’s something I’ve always done since I was a little boy,” he said.
“I was chasing pigeons off the park - that’s what old managers used to say to me. It’s just something I’ve always done.
“Every football fan loves a player that works hard and that’s not just myself, other players do it too.
“And it’s something that the manager says. He says don’t worry about your performance as long as long as you’re coming off the pitch sweating and covered in mud.
“That’s all he’s bothered about.
“It’s very old school in a way and I don’t think it’ll ever go away because hard work beats talent.
“For me my performances could’ve gone a lot better goals-wise.
“But I think I’ve done quite well coming from Solihull where I was not fit because I wasn’t playing games.
“I’m now getting fit and obviously pleased to be playing.
“I did not get a run of games there but I can’t complain because the strikers they’ve got there have been around the leagues and have a lot more experience with proven records.”
