AFC Telford United v Hereford postponed due to coronavirus
AFC Telford United are understood to be awaiting the results of a Covid-19 test after tonight's National League North visit of Hereford was postponed.
The club revealed mid-afternoon that the fixture would not take place due to a ‘Covid-19 event’.
Gavin Cowan’s men were due to welcome the Bulls to the New Bucks Head in the last home match played without supporters in attendance as the national lockdown ends.
The Bucks had hoped to play the fixture tomorrow night in front of fans and had requested with the National League and Hereford that the game be played 24 hours later but the request was rejected by their visitors.
But the fixture will be replayed at a later date after the discovery.
It is the first time that Telford have been hit by a cancellation owing to the pandemic.
The relevant medical forms have been submitted to the National League prior to the testing and will be done so with results.
Telford hope to discover the result of the test, which was given to one member of the squad, in the next 24 hours.
The test result will then map out the next couple of weeks for the National North side.
If the test returns positive then the Bucks camp will need to self isolate and forthcoming games at Farsley Celtic, on Saturday, and Kettering Town, on Saturday week, will be postponed.
Farsley, in West Yorkshire, is currently in tier three, meaning no supporters will be permitted to Saturday’s game, if it goes ahead.
As it stands Telford are due to kick off their FA Trophy campaign at the second round stage on Tuesday, December 15 and that tie should not be affected though is dependant on opposition status.
Should the individual involved return a negative result, then the Bucks will train on Thursday as normal and continue their preparation for Saturday’s trip to Yorkshire.
