Emi Martinez

Could do nothing about either of the goals. Didn’t have a serious save to make until pulling off a world class one to at least make sure Villa bagged a point.

Class 8

Lamare Bogarde

Worked hard yet it is difficult to escape the feeling he is not quite yet at the level required. Withdrawn at the break for the fit-again Cash. Depth 5

Diego Carlos

Gave the ball away twice cheaply early on. Not tight enough to Mateta in the build-up to the opener and nowhere near decisive enough where it mattered. Uncertain 5.

Pau Torres

Sublime pass to start the move for Villa’s goal but defensively there were too many shaky moments. Caught in no-man’s land for the opener. Mixed 6

Ian Maatsen

Didn’t play badly on his first Premier League start for Villa. A threat down the left flank and his pace bailed Villa out on several occasions at the back. Decent 7

Ross Barkley

Salvaged a point with a fine header. Has quietly been one of Villa’s most consistent performers through the early months of the season. Looks a bargain signing. Goal 7

Youri Tielemans

Delivered the corner from which Barkley headed the second equaliser but that could not make up for the penalty miss. His poorest display of the season. Miss 5

Leon Bailey

Not quite on it but almost brought his season to life with a thumping strike which hit the bar. No shortage of effort but too much of what he tried didn’t come off. Moments 6

Morgan Rogers

Followed up his new contract with probably his poorest performance of the season. Lacked finesse and it hurt Villa, as he was often found in acres of space. Messy 5

John McGinn

The skipper produced a lovely pass for Watkins’ goal but was then too indecisive in the build-up to Palace’s second. Far from the worst performer. Pass 7

Ollie Watkins

Looked seriously in the mood during the first half and took his goal well having earlier been denied by a brilliant Henderson save. Faded a bit in the second half. Frustrated 6

Substitutes
