The 19-year-old Serbia international has moved to the Bundesliga in a deal which includes an option to buy worth more than £12million.

Nedeljkovic signed from Red Star Belgrade 12 months ago in an £8m move but has seen his opportunities limited since arriving at Bodymoor Heath last summer.

The right-back made just 10 appearances in all competitions, starting just two games. His final appearance came as a late substitute in last weekend’s 2-0 derby defeat at Wolves.

Villa signed Spanish right-back Andres Garcia from Levante for £5m earlier in the window and boss Unai Emery made clear Nedeljkovic would be allowed to leave on loan, though it is now possible he could make a permanent exit.

He joins Jaden Philogene, Diego Carlos, Emi Buendia, Jhon Duran and Joe Gauci in leaving Villa during the current window.

The club have signed winger Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund for £21m, while Marcus Rashford has joined on loan from Manchester United.

Spain international Marco Asensio is also joining on loan, while Villa also want to bring in a defender before Monday’s deadline.

However, they can only register three new players in their squad for the Champions League knockout stages.

Youngster Sil Swinkels has joined Bristol Rovers on loan for the rest of the season, while wideman Samuel Iling-Junior has gone to Middlesbrough after spending the first half of the campaign with Bologna.
