AFC Telford to host Shrewsbury in pre-season clash

Shropshire rivals AFC Telford United and Shrewsbury Town will meet for a pre-season friendly at the New Bucks Head later this summer.

The first-team friendly is scheduled for Wednesday, July 26 at the home of the Bucks, with a 7.45pm kick-off.

The fixture completes Rob Smith's side's pre-season line-up.

They first head to Haughmond on July 8 before welcoming Steve Bruce's Villa on July 12.

Wolves under-23's then visit Telford on July 15 before the Bucks head to Wolverhampton Sporting Community on July 18.

Phoenix club Hereford FC visit the New Bucks Head on Saturday, July 22 – and following the midweek visit of League One side Shrewsbury – Telford finish their schedule at Welsh outfit Caernarfon on July 29.

Paul Hurst's Shrewsbury open their pre-season account against Villa at Greenhous Meadow on July 15 before tackling Wolves and Burton Albion on July 22 and 29, respectively.

Town loaned young goalkeeper Callum Burton to the Bucks last season, while Smith's National League North side downed Salop to claim the Shropshire Senior Cup with a 2-0 Meadow victory in March.
