Shrewsbury Town hopeful of signing Bryn Morris

Shrewsbury Town have held talks with midfield target Bryn Morris, with boss Paul Hurst confident of landing the former Middlesbrough man.

Morris was one of four players offered fresh terms at the end of the season along with Player of the Year Mat Sadler, Shaun Whalley and Shaun Rowley.

The other three have put pen to paper on new contracts and Hurst is hopeful 21-year-old Morris will soon follow suit.

“I think things have moved closer,” said Hurst. “We’ve had some contact and he’s away at the minute.

“I can’t say he’s definitely signing but I get a positive vibe from speaking to his agent, so fingers crossed.”

Should Morris decide to take up an offer elsewhere, due to being under the age of 24, compensation will be payable to Shrewsbury.

The former England youth international largely impressed in his 13 outings after leaving the Riverside Stadium in January.

“Bryn is at an age where there is a lot of potential in him, as I’ve said before,” added Hurst.

“As a club we are covered. It’s not how I want the situation to end, but he is under 24 and been offered a deal so, worst case, we would at least get a bit of compensation.

“If it’s a negative on Bryn, then from the list of midfielders we are looking at it would mean we would have to get two rather than one.”

Town have signed forwards Arthur Gnahoua from Kidderminster and Newport County’s Lenell John-Lewis this close season.
