Dean Henderson ready to 'conquer' League One at Shrewsbury Town

The 20-year-old goalkeeper has signed up for the season under Paul Hurst, with whom he worked during a loan spell at Grimsby Town.

However, the Manchester United youngster failed to make a first-team appearance under the Salop boss during his time at Blundell Park - but is keen to do the opposite as he heads to the Meadow.

"[I'm] obviously delighted to come here and be reunited with [Chris] Doig and the gaffer."

"I had a few options but from my point of view the interest the gaffer has shown in me was massive.

"For the last six months now he's been onto me saying that he'd love to have me for this season, so obviously knowing you're wanted, it's a great feeling, so I'm really delighted.

"It was obviously hard for me to take at the time [not playing], but I understood the reasons why and they would have had no problem playing me, but coming here now I've just got to take this opportunity, play as many games as I can and show them what I can do."

And whilst the management team at Shrewsbury has undoubtedly played a part in bringing him to the club, the promise of League One football has also been a key factor for the 20-year-old, who's keen to develop and progress in his position.

"I could've gone to a lot of League Two clubs this year." said the Manchester United prospect.

"But I had to show the development in going into the next league and you've got to show the progression, coming here I'm obviously delighted to be here now, ready to go and then hopefully conquer League One."

"A couple of years ago I was on the bench when we [United] played in the FA Cup."

"I can remember coming here, it was a packed house. I remember the fans being really good supporting the team. Everything's in place there to succeed so we'll just have to wait and see."

Following their first pre-season game against Ebbsfleet, Shrewsbury now face a challenging set of fixtures to prepare the side for the upcoming campaign, and Henderson is keen to get into the thick of things as quickly as possible.

"I can't wait, obviously it's good to get some games under your belt before the season starts."

"You look at some of the fixtures, you've got Villa, Cardiff, Wolverhampton - some big games.

"It'll be good to play. Hopefully get a few fans in and see what happens but it'll be good.

"I'll be working hard every day in training and hopefully playing well in the games.

"This is it, I'm here now and ready to go. I've left no stones unturned, so I'm ready."
