Ticket sales for Shrewsbury’s historic play-off final at Wembley are going well but their are still plenty of tickets left

And today fans were challenged to get as close to 20,000 as possible before the play-of final with Rotherham on Sunday.

The Yorkshire club says it has also sold around 10,000, a total it hopes to double as it aims to return to the Championship at the expense of the Shrews.

It is Shrewsbury Town’s biggest weekend, which could see them become a Championship club.

And at the moment Shrews own the bragging rights, by marginally outselling the Yorkshire club as they aim to fill Wembley.

Out of an allocation of 20,000 tickets, fans have been busy snapping them up online and by phone since they went on sale last Wednesday.

Sales opened at 8am and just over two hours later the club announced that 3,000 had already been sold with more than 5,000 being bought up by the end of the day. Tickets range in price from £30 to £80 per adult.

Rotherham say they have also almost sold around 10,000 and aim to increase that significantly ahead of Sunday’s game. Shrews have also issued a rallying call to fans. Around 12,000 fans travelled to Wembley for the Checkatrade Cup final against Lincoln and the club says it is aiming to send as close to 20,000 for the more important play-off final.

Tickets sales close on Friday and are on sale online. An allocation of a further 1,000 tickets was going on sale from 2pm today at the Montgomery Waters Meadow ticket office.

Coaches are being laid on for fans travelling to the London stadium but for those travelling to the ground under their own steam, they will be able to park and ride from Wealdstone FC, where winger Abo Eisa was signed before making his way to Shrewsbury Town FC in January.

The club, which is seven miles from Wembley, is offering free parking to coaches, cars and vans, before supporters travel on the overground tube service to the stadium. The club is also opening its bar and laying on a BBQ.

Alternatively there is car parking available direct from Wembley Stadium priced at £30 per car. Supporters can buy tickets from eticketing.co.uk/shrewsburytownfc or calling 0844 453 9031.

And there will be a festive feeling in the air when more than 10,000 balloons and bucketfuls of confetti are released in to the air as the team walks on to the pitch. Supporter Dave Rowley set up an online donation page and within days dozens of fans donated more than £1,000.
