The 28-year-old defender has signed up at the Montgomery Waters Meadow on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee - and will help fill the boots of the outgoing Toto Nsiala.

But having featured for Askey in a loan spell at Macclesfield, Waterfall is a man well-known to the boss.

"Luke is a player that I know well. I know exactly what I’m getting." Askey said.

"He’s done really well with Lincoln and he’s been a big part of why they have done so well, coming into league football and then doing so well in the FA Cup."

“He’s show that whatever the opposition, he’s more than capable.

"He’s a good organiser and he gets people around him playing as well.

“I think he will be a good addition to what we have got, exactly what we need and I’m sure Luke is looking forward to playing for Shrewsbury.”

Having helped guide Lincoln to League Two, and success in last season's Checkatrade Trophy final against Salop, Askey feels that his experience was key in bringing him to the Meadow.

“He’s got plenty left in him. He’s come up through the leagues, that experience will stand him in good stead.

“He’s no nonsense, he will head it and kick it but he can play, he’s not just all about that.

“When you need somebody to roll their sleeves up Luke will do that and he will get people around him doing that as well.

“I think in any team you need that and with what has gone on we needed to get another centre half so I am really pleased to get him and I know what I am getting."

The defender could feature in blue and amber as early as this weekend, as the club prepare to take on Charlton at The Valley.
