Shrewsbury boss Matt Taylor: I am a better coach than I was before

New boss Matt Taylor insists he is joining Shrewsbury Town a better coach than the one who left Walsall 16 months ago.

Taylor was sacked by the League Two Saddlers in February last year, just eight months into his first senior job in management.

The 41-year-old has now seen off several more experienced candidates to land a job the division higher at Town and admitted to being “acutely aware” of the need to be a success in Shropshire.

Taylor spent his time out of work reflecting on where things went wrong at Bescot – where he was axed following a run of seven straight defeats – and seeking ways to improve.

He said: “I’d like to think as I sit here now, I am a better coach than I was then.

“What I will need to do moving forwards is prove that to the players, prove that to the supporters and make sure at the end of it we win football matches because that is the most important thing.
