Shrewsbury analysis: Positive signs but Salop still missing the final touch
Shrewsbury have taken some small steps forward in the last two games – but they are only small steps.
As far as goalless draws go, the game at the Croud Meadow was an entertaining encounter on a miserable afternoon in Shropshire.
It was far from a drab affair with both sides missing ample opportunities to score.
Opportunities to score is exactly what Salop fans have been desperate to see with their side creating very little up to the last two games.
Matt Taylor and his team have needed to demonstrate to their supporters they can get on the front foot, they can put sides under pressure, and they can create clear-cut opportunities.
Up to the games against Leyton Orient and Charlton, those characteristics had been absent from their opening seven League One games.
Really good chances fell to Morgan Feeney in the first half – from a Tom Bayliss free-kick. And to Max Mata, who missed from really close range. Taylor Perry blazed over when he should have passed after the break and Kieran Phillips failed to convert when clean through in stoppage time.
There were other narrow misses, but they were clear goal-scoring chances that left you thinking ‘he should have scored that’.
