Shrewsbury analysis: Still hard to gauge which direction Salop are heading
After the high of the win against Derby last weekend it is safe to say we have learnt nothing about this Shrewsbury Town side since.
Was that victory just over a week ago another false dawn, or was it the start of some green shoots of recovery?
In this writer’s opinion, we still do not know.
And the reason for that is because both results on the road in the seven days after – which have seen Town concede five goals without reply – have had an element of unfairness to them.
The one against Barnsley, where the referee effectively gave them a two-goal head start.
Granted, they could have come back from that, and the goal-scoring record is something that needs acknowledging.
But in a game against third in the league that always looked a tough test on paper, coming from two down looked like a long shot, especially with their struggles away from home.
And then on Saturday, a 2-0 defeat on the road, but in a game that was heavily influenced by the mistake of captain Chey Dunkley in the fourth minute.
It is rare to see a player handed a straight red card that early into a game. And from that moment on, you always felt like Town would come out on the wrong side of the result.
