The Brewers came out on top in the clash of the managerless sides in the third tier of English football as they comfortably overcame Sean Parrish's Shrewsbury to secure a 2-0 victory - their first since April this year.

The home side took the lead in the 10th minute when Tomas Kalinauskas converted Burton skipper Elliot Watt's deep cross to the back post.

It came after the winger had just hit the post.

The ball was recycled and whipped back in, and he was there at the far post to open the scoring.

Town did very little in the first half to respond to that setback. Leo Castledine and John Marquis had headers inside the Brewers' penalty area, which came to nothing.

Tom Bloxham was an outlet on the right side, but his decision-making at times when in great positions, let him down.

Charlie Webster went close to making it two for the hosts when he shot wide after the break when through on goal.

But Danilo Orsi did give the Brewers a two-goal advantage soon after when he latched onto Watt's through ball and finished beautifully into the corner.

Sean Parrish made three changes to try and get Town back into the game as Tommi O'Reilly, Jordan Shipley and Taylor Perry all came on.

And it was Aston Villa loanee O'Reilly who had Town's best chance to get them back in the game.

Bloxham pulled it back to him and his effort, which looked as if it was sneaking into the corner, was deflected behind by Ryan Sweeney. It was a clash with very few clear-cut chances and Town once again ended up on the wrong side of the result.
