Wolves in Austria: Nathan Judah and Tim Spiers' Day 2 diary

'The Hills are alive with the Sound of Wolvessss,' was the scene I awoke to on Day 2 - this place really is a fairytale until you realise you're rooming with Tim Spiers.

TS: Touche, Mr Judah, especially after seeing your Where's Wally pyjamas....

Joking aside, it was an early start after a late night, and not because we were out partying all night in Schlitters.

After retiring to our room and failing to pay for a pizza (they only took cash and we only had card) we worked well into the witching hour prepping stories for the next day.

So you can imagine how delighted we were to hear that Wolves were training at 9am!

Breakfast had to be bypassed as we drove straight to the team hotel to observe the players being put through their paces.

When you go down to the woods today...

With GPS on, what could go wrong? Apparently a lot.

45 mins later (should have been a 15 minute journey) I spotted a few guys in training gear walking down a hill - turns out it was Ruben Neves and co.

Note to self: When lost, look for the Neves star.

A narrow woodland trail led to what can only be described as a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Scenery was breathtaking yet again and to be greeted by a smiling Nuno made skipping bacon and eggs all the more worth it.

The boys getting ready

I was like a kid at Christmas wanting to play with all the new purchases...Roderick Miranda, Ryan Bennett, John Ruddy, Neves and Barry Douglas.

And just as exciting were the toys you haven't played with for a while...Michal Zyro, Joe Mason and Sylvain Deslandes.

Plenty of snaps and vids were taken, but the man who stole the show was Willy Boly. What a man, what a mountain, what a unit!

BIG Willy Boly

The man is a serious freak of nature with thighs the size of tree trunks. If he lives up to billing, Wolves fans could have found their new fan favourite.

TS: There's also potential for plenty of mischief with his name, as we found out just a couple of minutes into our first video of the season.

And just like that, our time with the players came to an end as Nuno closed down training to all media as he began his private tactics session with the squad.

So it was back to the Wolves hotel and time for the first Spiers/Judah video of the season. To say were spoilt for background choice would be the understatement of the century - I think we picked a pretty good spot!

Setting up for the first vid of the season

Vid over, it was an afternoon of editing but as the clock had struck 5pm, it was time to get some air and travel back to basecamp. We hadn't realised, but all we'd eaten was a bag of pretzels between us since 9pm last night!

We tried to stop off in the villiage of Fugen in hunt of a fan or too (pretty hot on a night at our place), but that proved a bit of a wild goose chase, although some excellent Spiers parking made the detour worthwhile.

Head in hands moment as Spiers shows off his parking skills

TS: To be fair it's not easy to park in a left-hand drive. But yes it was a busy but good day in Austria covering training in glorious surroundings and then writing up a number of stories for the website and Wednesday's paper including some breaking news on Will Norris signing from Cambridge, Wolves announcing a number of charitable Carl Ikeme initiatives for the Cure Leukaemia charity, a Nouha Dicko interview, the latest on Helder Costa's injury and a few words from Nuno in pre-season. I also interviewed John Ruddy, who seems to have settled in pretty seamlessly.

A trip to our local Spar shop was much needed and after plenty of googling 'Austrian to English,' we returned with what looked like a couple of days worth of edible products.

Dinner is served

And I must say the sight of Mr Spiers cooking spaghetti bolognese was pretty impressive, he just needed a little bit of Worcestershire sauce to finish it off.

I went for my own salmon salad, but the boy passed the test, so maybe we can join forces next time?

TS: After a jam-packed couple of days we were ready for an uneventful evening...which is was until a fuse blew the power for the whole apartment. Cue some peculiar prancing around the flat from Judah in the style of Benny Hill while I phoned our landlady who restored electricity a few minutes later.

A haunting image

After a late night and early start, we both needed some much needed sleep.

Can't wait for the first game of the season! Bring on Werder Bremen!
