John Ruddy: Break comes at a great time for Wolves

Goalkeeper John Ruddy believes the international break comes at a good time for Wolves – as Nuno Espirito Santo bids to line up three transfers this week.

Fourth-placed Wolves’ 0-0 draw at Brentford on Saturday gave them 10 points from their opening five league games.

Ruddy believes that despite Wolves spurning a number of chances a point was a good result ahead of the two-week break.

“The break gives you an opportunity to rest,” he said. “The games have come thick and fast – we’ve had five league games and two cup games and Saturday/Tuesday right the way from the start of the season so far.

“It’s a good chance to get some rest into the legs and make sure the boys are fresh by the time we come back.”

Diogo Jota and Leo Bonatini could have won it for Wolves in an entertaining game which left Nuno again cursing poor refereeing.

Ruddy added: “You had to be fully focused, it was end to end in patches.

“Brentford came out and showed their intent right from off and made it very difficult for us. Overall we’re disappointed not to win but if you come to a place like Brentford and grind out a 0-0 it’s a positive.

“Brentford teams in recent years have been high tempo and high press and they haven’t changed their methods in that sense.

“I thought we dealt with it well, after the initial 25-30 minutes and had the lion’s share of possession and chances after that.

“It’s one of those, it could have gone either way.

"I love grounds like this. I think old school ground where the fans are on top of you, there’s something about it – it’s a bit nostalgic.

"I think it gives a sense that everything is crowded but if you ask the boys who are running up and down the pitch, it’s not a small pitch.

"On a hot day it was tough for the lads but they put in a really good shift."

Barry Douglas missed the Brentford game after picking up a knock against Cardiff a week earlier but he will be fit to play again after the international break.

Meanwhile, it’s believed Wolves still hope to sign three players this week – a striker, a central midfielder to replace the departed David Edwards and a left-back.
