A modern stadium record crowd of 30,239 watched Wolves beat West Midlands rivals Villa 2-0 and top the second-tier table for the first time since 2009.

Batth believes having the support of the whole city behind them can only help Wolves as they look to keep their promotion charge going.

"That is what it is going to take – we need the support of every single fan in the place to keep us going," Batth said.

"The last game I remember the atmosphere being up to this level was the Chelsea game (in February). That kind of support , it is not cheap to come and watch football so for the fans to spare their money to come and watch us, when it is on TV as well, is massive for us. It just shows if we keep playing the right football and getting the results, fans will come and support us.

"Every time I put on the shirt and we win a game, it is a proud moment for myself, particularly in a big derby like this.

"You can't underestimate how much it means to the area and the fans who have been through some tough times.

"Hopefully we can keep winning."

Brierley Hill-born Batth has been with the club since he was 10 years old and is one of few remaining players to have played with them in League One four seasons ago.

"It has been a big transformation," the 27-year-old added. "To be part of it is something I am immensely proud of and hopefully we continue the spiral. It is still early days this season and we have done nothing yet as it is. We won't be looking at that too much.

"There has been lean times . I have a lot of friends who are Wolves fans. They have had to come and watch in the past some pretty poor football.

"My phone hadn't stopped ringing all week for tickets for the Villa game. I probably could have filled a temporary stand myself. There is a lot of demand but we will keep our feet on the floor.

“There were a few Tuesday nights in the past when my phone was pretty quiet, it is all good now but we won't get too carried away."

Saturday's attendance was the biggest at Molineux since 1981 when 40,524 watched an FA Cup sixth round replay win over Middlesbrough.

Wolves' all-time record home attendance stands at 61,315, set in 1939 also in the FA Cup for a fourth round tie against Liverpool.
