Wolves captains Conor Coady and Danny Batth hail special day
Captains Conor Coady and Danny Batth led the celebrations as Wolves joined with 80,000 fans to mark the team’s promotion to the Premier League in style.
Club skipper Batth and stand-in captain Coady lifted the Championship trophy together last weekend and have been key presences in the Wolves dressing room.
Batth told the Express & Star: “I wish I had the words...it’s a great day, we knew the fans would turn out in their thousands but we’ve been blown away today.
“And the sun is shining which is a surprise in Wolverhampton!
“It’s just great to see so many smiles. Wolverhampton is a tough place to grow up and you can see the city unified and that’s all because of one thing – football and the direction we’re going.
Coady’s form has attracted the eye of England boss Gareth Southgate.
He said: “It’s the best feeling in the world.
“Our families are here and the best thing about it is it’s no more than this city deserves, to have a team doing well that’s in the Premier League.
“The scenes are incredible but it doesn’t surprise us, it’s a one-club city and football means an awful lot to people around here.
“I’ve come to learn that over the years I’ve been here. It’s a special city when it comes to football.
“We’re 100 per cent excited for what’s next. You hear the owner and managers speak...there’s a great future ahead for this football club.
“And we’re ready for that, we’ll embrace the challenge.
“It’s remarkable to get that moment in your life when you get to see all that.
“For them it’s an incredible day and it’s for them that we do it all for.
“We’ve got our families here too and it’s a special day.”
