The 21-year-old suffered the injury yesterday morning during a goalkeeping session and will return early from their pre-season camp.
Burgoyne, who joined Argyle on loan from Wolves this summer, was gearing up for their upcoming season in League One.
However the injury has sidelined the shot-stopper who is now in plaster and is due to return home for further treatment.
Burgoyne, from Ludlow, tweeted: "Gutted to have broken my ankle out in holland on pre season with @Only1Argyle I was so excited for the start of the season! But this is football and life and i will be back stronger than ever!! #greenarmy"
