Steve Bull: The first 10 games will be crucial to our season

I’m so excited for the new season. I think every supporter I have spoken to now has been for a long time too – they can’t wait for the first whistle to blow.

I think every game will be important this season. I have said all along survival is the main priority. I know a lot of fans are more or less thinking top half, top 10 – but it should be survival first and then look ahead after that.

The first five or 10 games will have a big say on where we will finish in the league.

Don’t count your chickens before they hatch, wait until our first 10 games and see where we go from there.

I think Nuno will set up his his team how he finished last season. He will probably play a 3-4-3 – from the first whistle he will go ‘attack, attack, attack’.

The only thing that let us down last year was killing teams off. Hopefully they have learned over pre-season that if we go a goal up, we should go on on to be 2-0 or 3-0 up.

The players know the style of play Nuno wants and the fans have accepted the way he wants to play.

It is very exciting football, the only downside is sometimes not having that killer touch in front of goal.

The players have got to shoot as if it is the last shot that they will ever have.

Having said that, I don’t think Wolves should have tried more to get a prolific striker because we are not actually playing a style of football that would suit a traditional centre forward. We are playing three up front – it is up to the opposition defenders to decide on who to mark.

In a 4-4-2 you have two defenders who know who they are going to mark but with three up front they will be thinking ‘who am I looking after?’

Overall, the transfer window went well for us. The fact we have spent this amount of money while going up shows the club means business.

I don’t think any of the supporters will be complaining at all – Wolves have brought in top quality players.

All I can say to the supporters is enjoy it. They have supported the club over the years through thick and thin and now is the time to go and enjoy it and get behind the team.
