Conor Coady: First Wolves win was special

Coady skippered Wolves to their first top-flight victory for six-and-a-half years when they beat West Ham 1-0 on Saturday.

“It’s great to go into the international break with a win – it would have been a long two weeks otherwise!” he said.

“It’s special, it’s what we’ve been craving.

“The supporters, the players, the manager, we’ve all been craving it.

“We’ve been confident in the first four games – we’ve shown we’ve adapted and got better through the games.

“Saturday was a combination of how we want to play, how we want to be organised and how we want to dictate games.

“The lads were excellent. It would have been an injustice if we hadn’t come away with three points.”

Wolves had held champions Manchester City to a 1-1 draw the week before, a result which would have counted for little if they’d lost at the London Stadium, Coady said.

“I said to the boys before the game we’d only make the Man City point a good one if we could back it up at West Ham,” he added.

“We played some fantastic stuff, controlled the play and limited them to a few chances and obviously Rui made a fantastic save.

“There’s a lot of improvement to do.

“That’s why we play football, for those celebrations and the 30 seconds of madness after the goal.

“It’s special for everyone. The performance as a whole was the most pleasing thing.”
