Don't slip up now Wolves, warns Matt Doherty

Despite producing almost four times the amount of shots as their opponents, Wolves lost 1-0 to Brighton at the Amex on Saturday.

Glenn Murray's well-taken goal early in the second half was all Brighton needed – and Wolves again paid for a lack of a clinical touch in front of goal.

"It's still been a very good start to the season, despite these defeats, but you can let that slip if you can into that downward spiral of not winning games," Republic of Ireland international Doherty said.

"We need to make sure that doesn't happen. We've got some big games coming up before the international break and we need to take as many points as possible.

"It was frustrating on Saturday. I don't know how many chances Brighton had, it didn't feel like that many.

"We've got ourselves into some really good positions but failed to score again.

"Everyone knows we played really well, we just couldn't put the ball in the net.

"They had half a chance and scored from it. That's the clinical nature of the Premier League."

Doherty was arguably Wolves' best player at the Amex and got into a number of promising positions in the Brighton box.

However the 26-year-old was left cursing a missed opportunity when he side-footed just wide in the first half.

"I should obviously put that in the net," Doherty said.

"I got into a good position, initially I wasn't going to take on the last defender, I was going to shoot. My touch took me closer so I thought I'm going to sidefoot it, I didn't even look at goal and it's gone just wide. It's frustrating for the team and me personally.

"We'll talk about it the performance on Monday, nothing was said (after the game) really.

"We created some good stuff, we're critical of ourselves in front of goal, we should score more goals.

"We didn't play badly so we can't be too harsh on ourselves, we looked dangerous. Obviously we're disappointed."
