Matt Doherty: Wolves can hand out a thrashing in 'brutal' league

Wolves head into this Saturday's game against Spurs at Molineux on the back of consecutive defeats, to Brighton and Watford.

They produced 25 shots against the Seagulls but have struggled for goals this season, netting nine in 10 matches.

Doherty is convinced they will put that right soon.

"One day it'll come and we'll give someone a hiding," he said.

"At Brighton I felt we couldn't really have done much more other than put the ball in the net.

"I thought we properly dominated the game and it's just a problem we've been having for a while that whoever gets the chances doesn't seem to be able to put it in the net, me included."

Nuno Espirito Santo has pledged the players will work to improve their problems in front of goal.

Doherty says that scoring in training is very different to on a match-day, though.

"It's like anything, in training everyone's putting it in the top corner, even me!" he said.

"I had one in training at the end of last week that I put in the corner...during the Brighton game I kicked the ground instead.

"The game pressure is completely different."

Champions League side Spurs are in the middle of a sequence of four games in 11 days.

Doherty added: "It's a good game to have. We're looking forward to it – a big game, there'll be a good build-up and we just need to make sure we have the type of energy we had at Brighton next week.

"(The defeats are) a bit of a reality check and goes to show you can't rest on your laurels too much.

"We're playing good stuff but you need more than that – you need to score goals to win games.

"It's brutal. We'll learn from it. There's a lot of belief in the squad. We've lost two in a row but we're still going into next week full of confidence.

"We're getting into good positions, a lot of us are getting good chances. It's the harsh nature of the league. We were full of confidence going into Brighton, even on the back of a loss last week.

"It just didn't go our way."
