Ryan Giles signs new Wolves contract

The teenager has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence this calendar year, going from the Under-18s to Nuno Espirito Santo's first team squad during the pre-season tour of Switzerland.

Giles enjoyed a productive loan spell at hometown club Telford towards the end of last season, under the guidance of current Wolves Under-23 boss Rob Edwards.

The 18-year-old left-footed winger/wing-back was named Wolves' academy player of the year for 2017/18 and then made several appearances for the first team in pre-season, catching the eye with a number of exciting displays down the left flank.

Giles has yet to make his senior Wolves debut but was on the bench for the two Carabao Cup ties against Sheffield Wednesday and Leicester City.

He is a regular for the Under-23 team this season.

Giles has now set his sights on breaking into the first team.

"It’s nice of the club to do that for me as it shows they believe in me," he said of his new deal.

“At this stage I’ve just got to keep working hard, keep learning and keep grabbing those opportunities, but it proves that if you do have those set-backs, with a bit of belief, hard-work and determination, anything can happen.

“My aim is to play for the first team. I think that’s every boy’s dream; to play for their club, to play for the first team, but for me I’ve just got to keep doing what I’m doing and keep grabbing those opportunities and play as many games as possible.

“Whether that’s with the under-23s or if there is a cup game I can hopefully be involved in, but whatever the opportunity is, I’ve just got to take it with both hands.

“Going away with the first team during pre-season was absolutely amazing and it was a great experience to be around the boys. To see the way they are playing and to learn off them, and they’ve given me a lot of advice which has developed me into a better player.”
