Wolves came from behind to beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at the home of football in what fans were calling one of the best performances of recent decades.

Doherty set up the third goal for Helder Costa as Wolves ran riot in the second half, having been 1-0 down at the break.

And the Irishman said: “That’s one of the most enjoyable second halves we’ve had as players together.

“We were so good. In terms of how we played it’s one of the best games of my career. It was thoroughly enjoyable.

“Playing football like that in the second half at Wembley, it was pretty good!”

Wolves have now taken points off all the top six teams bar Liverpool, having beaten Spurs and Chelsea and earned draws against Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United.

“I don’t know what the secret is but it’s not a coincidence – we’re a good team playing well,” Doherty said.

“In sport, when you’re confident you just do things you wouldn’t normally do.

“It’s not luck. We’ve always created chances but on Saturday we were clinical.

“Apart from Huddersfield and Watford, we’ve been in most games.

“We’ve won four in six, only one loss, we’re always confident. We’re thinking that teams might not fancy playing against us.

“It was just normal 11 v 11 football and we turned Spurs over, which is testament to our character seen as we were 1-0 down.”

Belgium international Leander Dendoncker made a shock first start for Wolves in the Premier League at Wembley.

The 23-year-old slotted in alongside Ruben Neves in midfield and gave a solid performance.

Doherty said of the Anderlecht loanee: “Ever since he’s come he’s been training well.

“He’s probably been a bit unfortunate at times when he’s been ill where he might have had a chance.

“He’s a Belgium international who’s played in a World Cup so he’s obviously a quality player and he did himself proud on Saturday.”
