Rui Patricio says Wolves must learn from their pain
Rui Patricio says Wolves must react in the face of adversity and bounce back from their FA Cup semi-final defeat.
Nuno Espirito Santo's team travel to face struggling Southampton at St Mary's tomorrow, six days after their gut-wrenching Wembley loss to Watford.
Patricio didn't feature in Wolves' FA Cup run but the experienced shot-stopper has urged his team mates to learn from their mistakes.
"This game has happened and we can develop from it," he said. "We can look at the mistakes we made to improve. So, as I said, we need to take this game and use it to grow.
"It was hard for the manager and the team as a whole because the objective was of course to reach the final. But we are professionals and must react in the face of adversity.
"So, as I said, we have to use this game to improve. That is what we shall do in all competitions.
"We want to return to be our best and get back to winning.
"We have to react in the upcoming game against Southampton. We have to bounce back."
Patricio was at Wembley to cheer his team-mates despite not being named in the squad.
"Whether you’re playing or not, you have a responsibility to help the team," the 31-year-old said. "The players are on the pitch and if you’re not then you are there to support.
"Sometimes, when you’re not on the pitch, you actually suffer more than if you’re on it. But we are united as a group and we are fighting for the same cause."
Wolves are eighth in the Premier League, levels on points with Leicester in seventh but with a game in hand.
Patricio says Wolves' target for the final games is clear.
"We want to finish in seventh place, so we shall compete for that," he added.
"There are still six games left before we’re done.
"We are highly motivated to finish in the best position possible. It’s what we’ve wanted and we’re going to continue working in the same way that got us here.
"We’re going to do everything to make that happen, we’re motivated and will be for every game.
"This (Southampton) team will be different to the team that we played in the first round of games. We’ll also be away.
"It’ll be different to when we played them here. It’ll be a good match and we’ll be competing and doing our best to get the win.
"We will be training so that we are at 100 per cent.
"We have to give our maximum because there are only six games left, six games for us to give our all."
