Nuno has unfinished business at Wolves, says John Richards

Club great John Richards is confident Nuno Espirito Santo wants to ‘see the job through’ at Wolves amid speculation over the Portuguese’s future.

Reports in national newspapers have linked Nuno with Tottenham while also suggesting Molineux chiefs are looking at potential candidates in case he leaves in the summer.

But Richards, who scored 194 goals for Wolves and later served as managing director, feels the boss has unfinished business in these parts.

“There’ll be interest in Nuno because of the success he’s had at Wolves. You can’t dismiss that. But I think that he wants to see the job through,” said Richards.

“He’s taken a lot of time and a lot of effort to get this team together.

“He’s been handicapped this season by a lot of things – not least the injuries, and particularly the one to Raul Jimenez.

“My reading of the man is that he’s loyal, and he will want to get that success at Wolves – take it as high as he feels he can – before he would consider looking elsewhere.

"I would think that the owners are delighted to have someone of his quality running the show and at the moment, there’s very few clubs you’d want to go to from Wolves.”

Richards also feels Nuno will be desperate to be back in front of a full Molineux after a season without supporters at games.

“He’ll look to get his team how he wants it, with Jimenez back, and performing in front of the fans,” said Richards.

“Give it a good go next season and hopefully be successful – and there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be.

"Then, he’s in a different situation. If he feels he’s done the job as much as he can, that would be the time to move on.

“But at the moment, I just think he knows full well that he’s not done the job how he wants it yet.”

He added: “The relationship he has with the fans and players, he won’t want to move away from that.

“The fans think he’s done a fantastic job, that says a lot. And they’re ready to step up with the way he’s been building it.”
