The wantaway 31-year-old returned to his former club after they made a  £2million permanent offer - after a loan proposal was rejected by Wolves for a player with just six months left on his contract.

Lemina flew to Istanbul on Monday and has now finalised his move, bringing an end to his Wolves career after two years.

When he arrived in January 2023 he helped the club stay in the Premier League before last season winning the player of the season award.

In the summer he was then rewarded with the captaincy but was stripped of the armband by Gary O'Neil after an altercation with Jarrod Bowen, his team-mates and first team coach Shaun Derry after the defeat to West Ham in December.

In a message to Wolves fans on Instagram, Lemina wrote: “It’s time for me to say goodbye.

"When I joined Wolverhampton on January 13, 2023, I never imagined how special this journey would be and how profoundly it would impact me.

"I will never forget the incredible moments we shared, nor the passion and energy you, the supporters, brought to every match. Those moments of joy and challenge have helped me grow not only as a player, but also as a person.

“I will always be grateful for the love and support you showed to my family and me. I want to thanks the club, the management, my teammates, the entire staff and, of course, you – the fans - for the trust you placed in me throughout my entire time here.

“Thank you for everything. And don’t forget to stay ‘together as a pack’.”

Wolves fans were quick to comment on the irony of staying 'together as a pack'

"From a cult hero to one of the worst captains in our history. sincerely Mario," wrote one fan.

While another said, " ‘Together, as a pack.’ Nice words Mario but your actions said otherwise. Refusing to play and letting the club down is what you’ll be remembered for. "

"He can get all emotional on here, bare facts are he refused to play. And I wouldn’t ever have him back," was a message many others reiterated, while one more said, "Hero to zero very quickly!"
