Shropshire golfer James Busby marked his PGA European Tour debut with a creditable one-over finish.

Busby, from Telford, had rounds of 66 and 65 for an overall 131 in the rain-affected Nelson Mandela Championship in Durban. The 30-year-old finished eight shots off winner Scott Jamieson.

The South African competition was reduced to two rounds because of torrential rain, but when play got under way Busby fell behind after hitting four bogeys.

But he rallied to birdie his ninth hole and then registered three more birdies on the back nine. His second round was steadier with three birdies cancelling out three bogeys for a 65.

Busby will stay in South Africa for the Alfred Dunhill Tournament at Leopards Creek on Thursday.
