The Muxton-based player picked up three birdies on the outward nine to go two under. But he was then rocked by a three-over-par eight at the tenth hole, going on to bogey three of the next four holes.

Germany's Marcel Siem is the early leader of the tournament, which offers a top prize of 250,000 euros.

Siem carded an eight-under-par 64.
