Gillum, 17, triumphed 1up over Wrekin's Lucy Evans at Henlle Park on Saturday afternoon to be crowned county champion.

That impressive feat won her the Lady Forester Cup. But she also took the Jean Barrowclough Trophy.

That was for the best first round score by a player under 30, and the Nina Howells Salver, for qualifying first in the opening round of the competition.

Gillum set a new course record in the first day qualifying round, scoring a one-under-par gross 71.

She got off to another strong start in Saturday afternoon's final, with Evans finding herself three down after seven holes. But by the 14th hole, Evans had battled back to just one down to set up a tense finale.

They halved the last four holes as Gillum secured the championship title.

Both players had earlier that day reached the final following two exciting semi-final matches.

Gillum had defeated last year's winner Victoria Bradbeer, from Oswestry, 6-4. Evans secured a 3-1 victory over Shifnal's Harriet Allsebrook on the 17th hole.

Gillum said: "I started the final well but Lucy came back into it and it turned out to be a very tight match.

"I thought at one stage it might be slipping away but we both played some really good golf. It feels really good to have won."

Competition organiser Sheila Parker said: "Quality golf was played throughout, and all players are to be congratulated."?
