Several of Lincolnshire's squad are based at host club Woodhall Spa and they will be hoping their familiarity with the course will give them an extra edge in the penultimate stage of the competition.

The winners of the 18-hole scratch strokeplay contest will move on to the national finals on October 8-10 at The Royal Automobile Club in London.

MGU chairman of championships Terry Horobin said: "Four or five of the Lincolnshire team are based at Woodhall Spa so that is the challenge for the visiting sides to over come that."

He added that the teams will be playing the very competitive Bracken Course but they were all due to play a practice round today to help them get to grips with it.

Shropshire will be represented by Glyn Hughes (Church Stretton), Basil Griffiths, Garry Huggett, Sandy Johnston (all Llanymynech), captain Andy Robinson (The Shropshire) and Steve Jennings (Oswestry).

Reserves will be David Humphreys (Llanymynech) and Paul Walker (Patshull Park).
