Katriana Gillum on course to defend her Shropshire Ladies County Golf Association title

Lilleshall Hall's Shropshire golf champion Katrina Gillum remains on course to defend her county title after day one of the Shropshire Ladies County Golf Association Championships.

Gallium was one of 16 players who made the cut for the matchplay stages of the competition at Oswestry Golf Club.

She came third in the strokeplay qualifying round, with rounds of 76 and 78 for a combined 154, setting up a last 16 tie against Oswestry's Victoria Raffle.

Eight matches were due to be played this morning, with the winners advancing to the quarter-finals. The semi-finals and final will be played tomorrow.

Shifnal's Harriet Allsebrook topped the leaderboard with a score of 151, followed by Oswestry's Victoria Bradbeer who was two shots behind.

Tania Pearce and Gemma Thornell (both Oswestry) also made the cut along with Lucy Evans (Lilleshall Hall), Caleigh Smith (The Shropshire). Sarah Belcher (Lilleshall Hall). Ros Moor (Bridgnorth), I Green (Church Stretton), Hilary Fowles (Shrewsbury), Mair Robinson (The Shropshire), Margaret Lynch (Oswestry), Alison Grove and Angela Hinton (both Bridgnorth).

Anne Belshaw, DIane Edwards, Penny Scott, Margaret Harris and Linda Mottram failed to make the cut.
