Jack Dirkin, from Telford, has made history by becoming the youngest ever player from Shropshire to take part in competition aged just four.

And Bridgnorth's Conor White has won the 15-18-years-old age category.

Dirkin competed in the Under-7s age group at the three-day event, at Longniddry Golf Club, bravely taking on a 51-strong field and finishing 47th overall after three nine-hole rounds.

He carded scores of 55, 45 and 41 and also scored an impressive 44 in a practice round.

It is not the first milestone in the young golf prodigy's short life, as just last year he became the youngest ever competitor to take part in the Shropshire & Herefordshire Union of Golf Clubs' Pee Wee Tour at the age of three.

White, meanwhile, edged out 40 other competitors to win his age group after carding an impressive four over par 220 after three rounds of 74, 71 and 75.
