There were more podium finishes for rookie racer Matthew Speed at round three of the East Midland Racing Association at Mallory Park.

But it was a tale of two sides for the Shaw twins, who endured very different weekends.

Speed, 32, of Whitchurch, secured two third-placed finishes despite suffering with set up problems during the opening Rookie class race.

“I got it right for the second but just got done by some back markers at the wrong time,” he said.

“I still took some solid points and most importantly took home some silverware to add to the collection.”

Will Shaw, 30, from Telford, was back competing against some of the biggest names in the business in the Superstock class, including Isle of Man TT star, Australian David Johnson.

“In race one I finished first in class but third overall behind Johnson and top class rider, Barry Burrell,” he said.

“My second race was very much the same with another win in class and third overall.

“It was extra special as it was a tribute trophy race to Allan Tolton and we had a presentation on the grid.”

Will also entered the Supersport class and again went well, finishing the opener first in class and race two in second.

“It was another great weekend extending my championship lead in the Superstock and reducing the margin in the Supersport,” he said.

Twin brother Matthew, however, did not have the best of luck finishing ninth overall in his first Lightweight race on his Honda CB500, before recovering to fourth for in opening CB 500 race.

“The third race was not so good as on my ninth lap I had a lad out of control come up the inside at Shaw’s hairpin,” he said.

“He nearly took us both out. I took evasive action and was forced wide on to the dirty part of track – and tucked the front.

“I had no time to get my bike ready for my second CB 500 race, which was such a shame.”

The next EMRA round is on July 23.

Meanwhile, Alveley’s Harris Beech also continued his impressive form in the MiniGPUK series during round three at Whilton Mill, in Daventry.

The 13-year-old qualified second on grid but led race one from the start.

After a poor start in race two, he fell to third before catching the leaders on the fourth lap to claim a double win

Harris is now 16 points clear in the MiniGPUK championship.

Round four takes place at Lydd, Kent, on May 27 and 28.
