A league management meeting on Thursday evening came to the conclusion that it wasn't possible to fit in the outstanding fixtures in the 12-team top division before the May cut off date.

As a result the battle for championship glory has been curtailed with Shropshire FA officials now set to meet next week to decide what format they will over clubs with a cup competition or a mini-league under consideration.

But while the Premier Division won't have a title winner, the six teams in Division will continue their league season.

"Given that our Premier Division would need to be completed by the end of May, it was not possible for the league season to continue for the Premier Division," said league secretary Zoe Griffiths.

"In Division One, there are six clubs and it was unanimous that the league format would be completed in that division. If need be, Division One can actually go into June.

"There is going to be some form of football offered to the Premier Division clubs.

"Shropshire FA are going to consult with the league sponsor, Salop Leisure, next week and come up with an option for the clubs.

"They will meet on Tuesday to come up with a fixture programme. There is talk of potentially two mini leagues and there is talk of a cup competition that we could provide for the clubs.

"If we go with a mini-league format then there will be semi-finals and a final. So there will be a trophy of some sort to play for.

"All that will be discussed and decided on Tuesday morning.

"We have made that decision, we didn't ask clubs for their opinion on this occasion. It's just not possible to fit the games in, we have got seven weeks to fit in 19 league fixtures, so it's just not feasible. All member clubs have been informed.

"Division One will commence on Saturday, April 3 and whatever format of football we provide for the Premier Division will also commence on that same date."

Steam Wagon had powered their way to the top of the Premier Division having won nine of their 10 games.

Ludlow were second, five points adrift, while Dawley Town would have fancied their chances of gate-crashing the title battle. They were sitting fourth, nine points behind Wagon but with three games in hand.

In Division One, Prees lead the way with AMS FC Development five points behind having played two games fewer.
